My Summer Travel Hit List

Cadaqués, Spain

I’ll be spending two weeks glamping in Cadaqués with my boyfriend and our three-year-old daughter. I grew up camping with my family and, even though I’m spoiled with luxury hotels for work, I still love the simplicity of it. That said, there’s nothing particularly rustic about WeCamp Cadaqués. We have a spacious tent complete with a kitchen, toilet and shower (stocked with santal-scented shower gel—they get it), and even air conditioning. There’s a children’s club offering activities like butterfly workshops and nature art, where kids create collages and paintings from things found around the site.

WeCamp is just a seven-minute walk from Salvador Dalí House Museum in Portlligat, where the Spanish painter lived and worked from 1930 to 1982. The house he shared with his wife Gala feels as surreal and dreamlike as his paintings, yet calmer, surrounded by nature and solitude. It was here in this quiet coastal cove that he found the focus to create some of his most iconic works.

I’m also looking forward to taking my daughter to the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, a 19th-century theater transformed by the artist into a striking, rust-red museum crowned with giant eggs. I remember visiting it as a child and finding it completely magical, so I imagine she’ll be just as captivated.

Other than that, our days will be slow, following an easy rhythm of home-cooked breakfasts on our terrace, swimming and building sandcastles at Platja des Llané Gran, and long, late lunches at Set, tucked away in a quiet corner of the seafront. I also love cooking with ingredients from the local farmer’s market, and ending the day with tea and a book in the hammock once our daughter is asleep.

When I’m in the South of France for work this summer, I’m hoping to extend my stay and check into La Colombe d’Or, the legendary hotel in Saint Paul de Vence where artists like Matisse, Miró, and Chagall once paid for their stay with artworks that still hang on the walls.

A few years ago, I visited Eileen Gray’s E-1027, the modernist villa in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, and was struck by how far ahead of her time she was.

What I’m Packing

Hojicha from Oficina

I’m a Type B traveler in recovery, slowly turning into a Type A person who even travels with her own tea. For a campsite without a proper coffee spot nearby, I’m bringing my own hojicha from Amsterdam-based canteen Oficina, which also sells the tea they serve. I’ve been on a hojicha kick lately, especially since a friend served it with pistachio milk. It really brings out its nutty flavor.

Beauty of Joseon SPF50

Korean skincare at its best. This SPF50 isn’t sticky and doesn’t leave a white cast. It’s hard to believe it offers such high protection.

Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello Bikini

Believe it or not, I only bring one bikini when I travel. I found the perfect top on Vestiaire Collective last year, a Saint Laurent design by Anthony Vaccarello. He just gets it: tiny, black, with extra spaghetti straps that make it all the more interesting.

Dear Frances Mesh Ballet Flats

I know what you’re thinking: they look chic, but they’re not necessarily practical for summer. But they are. Lightweight and with a solid sole, I can easily walk 20,000 steps in them.

Baby Pink Slip Dresses

In my luggage, you’ll find a few baby pink slip dresses I thrifted over the years. I was in New York last fall and loved A.W.Kaufman. Vintage Dior lingerie pieces are my favorites.

A Toddler-Proof Uniform: Toteme Tanks & Comme Si Pants

Traveling with a toddler means only bringing clothes that can handle a stain or two, especially when glamping, so no dry-clean-only items. Three years into motherhood, I’ve settled into an easy uniform of Toteme tank tops and crisp cotton Comme Si trousers, elevated with jewelry.

Le Sundial Tina Smoky Quartz Necklace

I love Le Sundial, particularly their black Tina Smoky Quartz necklace. Made of square beads, it instantly makes even the simplest look feel more summery.

Tekla Beach Towel

Somehow, I always lose something while travelling. Most recently, I left a Toteme split-sleeve turtleneck at Milan Linate Airport (RIP), and last summer I lost my Maryam Nassir Zadeh beach towel. I’ll most likely replace it with a new one from Tekla Fabrics.
