This used to be one of the many old man bars in the city, unassuming and dingy, serving stale tortilla to the same three clients. There’s one next door, still. But El Pollo is gentrification, if you swing that way, or reinvention, if you swing the other way. Here you can drink expensive and delicious natural wine and watch Barcelona’s rich kids perform to one another. But that’s not all - El Pollo’s real merit is that it serves excellent tortilla (some say the best in the city) of a consistency (runny!) that you don’t often see outside the home. The rest of the food is delicious, too, especially the basque cheesecake. If you want tortilla or cheesecake, eat earlyish, as it runs out. Or bribe one of the bartenders to save some for you.
