Lisbon
GO GUIDE

Portugal's capital is a beautiful city with rich history and relaxed way of life. It's also one of the most affordable and best walking cities in Europe (but be warned: it's very, very hilly). With a relatively temperate climate, it's a great long weekend destination year-round. Don't miss listening to fado (local folk music) at any number of bars in the city center.

mustGoBelém

A 30-minute drive from Lisbon, Belém is home to iconic monuments like Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower. Equally famous is Pastéis de Belém, which has been open since 1837 and is a destination in and of itself for its pastel de nata (custard tart). Our favorite place to eat while in the area is O Frade (make a reservation in advance). On the drive back to Lisbon, stop at LxFactory, a super cool complex with hip shops and restaurants.

mustGoLxFactory

This grungy-cool complex is a hipster heaven, with vibrant street art and graffiti and lots of shops and restaurants. This is a fun place to visit on your way back from Belém, or to come with friends to hangout in the afternoon. Don't miss Ler Devagar bookstore and rooftop bar Rio Maravilha, which is particularly lovely at sunset.
