Bleach - café cantine vin à Biarritz

Our favorite cafe and wine bar—with a must-order banana bread topped with caramelized bananas and hazelnut butter, as well as a menu of small plates including ouefs with miso mayo, celery remoulade, and sandwiches. Perfect for a casual breakfast or lunch. 

Carøe

Danish-influenced, seafood-focused canteen with some of the best cuisine in town. A dinner must. The tapas-style menu changes but expect small plates along the lines of sea bream crudo with ponzu and spicy kimchi pancake with black garlic mayonnaise.

Chéri Bibi

A can’t miss in Biarritz, Chéri Bibi serves excellent seasonal plates (think white tuna with peach and kimchi jus) and natural wines in the center of town. Almost all dishes are topped with fresh flowers and micro greens. Must book in advance!

De Puta Madre

The restaurant at the stunning Villa Magnan, which hosts rotating chefs who serve seasonal set menus (lunch is a la carte) on a beautiful garden terrace. Setting is so special. You can also rent one of the rooms in the villa but the experience is rather simple—best for those who want something authentic and design-forward but don’t need any sort of pampering. 

Guéthary

Laid-back fishing and surfing village with lovely beaches and a local scene. Come for the morning to shop at Yaoya, get coffee at Providence, then have lunch at food truck Paz y Arroz or Greek spot Hétéroclito. 

Hungry Belly

The best bakery in Biarritz, with delicious options including carrot cake, vegan brownies, and the signature beignet filled with fig leaf–infused crème diplomate. 

Les Halles

Iconic Biarritz market, either go first thing in the morning for coffee at Lobita and to browse local produce, or on a Thursday evening during summer, when there is a fantastic night market. Also great for oysters, any time of day.

Maison Adam

Perhaps the best macarons ever. Also try the gateau Basque. 

Restaurant EPOQ

Sleek, open-plan restaurant and one of the top picks for an upscale evening out. The veggie-focused menu highlights the best seasonal produce, but you’ll also be able to enjoy fresh fish and fusion items like the popular pork bao buns.

Restaurant Pluviôse

Chef Luke Dolphin's one-man show in Saint-Jean-de-Luz—one of the most memorable meals to be had in the region. A handful of tables (try to book one of the four counter seats so you can watch him work), set menus that change daily and reflect the day's best produce, and an atmosphere that feels like dining at home. Simple and perfect. Come for a long, leisurely lunch.

Sillon

A gourmet destination, with both a casual bar area with a la carte options and a more formal dining room with a set menu where you’d enjoy inventive dishes such as hake cooked on a Japanese BBQ topped with kombucha paste. Ideal for an upscale date night. 


Yaoya

A mandatory stop in the nearby surf town of Guéthary, this Japanese greengrocer stocks curated provisions, from sake and homemade white miso to ceramic mugs and fresh produce. The freshly baked bread and pastries are also unmissable.
