This Italian-American day bar and restaurant just opened in May in Neukölln. It’s great for an after work drink at the bar or on the terrace (I liked the Corgi, a sort of grapefruit spritz). The food is also great, especially the radicchio salad with green apple and hazelnuts. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait.

One of the nicest recent additions around Kollwitzkiez is this coffee shop by day, wine bar by evening. The staff is lovely, the coffee is great, and they also serve pastries from Sofi bakery.

The more casual little sister of Shiori. For lunch, you can get futomaki to go or chirashi at the counter, and coming soon is their omakase dinner experience, focused on sushi. The space is beautiful and calm, a bit hidden behind Warschauer Straße.
Garten Mitte · Berlin
Garten Mitte
This recently opened cafe is set in a leafy backyard in Mitte and great for a sunny day. The kitchen focuses on regional ingredients, with produce coming directly from the garden itself. It’s great for coffee or lunch—we loved the asparagus tempura and the garden salad.

Breda is a lovely new opening right by the canal in Kreuzberg that serves mostly Northern Italian fare. When the weather allows, reserve a spot on the terrace and order a Garibaldi for people watching. The inside space is also beautiful (and very orange).
New National Gallery · Berlin
Neue Nationalgalerie – Brancusi & Fujiko Nakaya
Not a new opening per se, but these exhibits are some of the best things to see in Berlin right now. Don’t miss the Brancusi exhibition upstairs and Fujiko Nakaya’s fog installation outside. Entrance is free every first Thursday of the month.

The former gas station in Schöneberg, which previously hosted the Kleines Grosz museum, has been transformed into a new gallery by Pace. What remains is the beautiful garden area and small café.

Sori Ramen
One of the stronger additions to Berlin’s great ramen scene, Sori is set in Prenzlauer Berg and offers vegan and non-vegan options. Head next door to Lamm bar if you are in the mood for drinks after.
Alimentari Totti
This Kreuzkoelln spot serves by-the-slice pizza and classic Italian aperitivo drinks. The all-orange interior is cool and funky, and the owner is lovely and very attentive.

Mashing up American diner fare and German classics, Onette has been blowing up on social media, but the food is really worth it. They don’t take reservations, so be prepared to wait for a table during peak brunch time.

This cozy cafe between Gleisdreieck and Victoria Park is especially nice in the summer thanks to its outdoor seating. In the evening it turns into a wine bar with small plates, and sometimes they have special events like a taco pop-up.

Common is a bakery by day and a pizza place by night in Neukoelln. The cardamom buns are as good as the ones you’ll find in Copenhagen, and the grilled cheese also looked great.
